Obituary for Susan Marie Matthews (Powers)

Susan Marie Matthews passed away Thursday, the 25th of January 2018. She was born in San Antonio to Jim Powers and Pamela Gillespie the 31st of December 1975. Always a Texas southern girl, yet she always wanted a European English accent.

Susan is loved by so many. Even those that she recently encountered in a short period of time. Susan always walked through life with a positive attitude no matter what she was dealing with inside her little frame. She was always a fighter in every aspect of life. Taking what greatness she could from every situation. Most people wouldn’t know even know when she was in pain, they just saw that amazing smile and the aura she put out.

Susan is very loved by her employer Heritage Texas Properties. The support and dedication to her life and the celebration she has everyday has definitely shown how much love she has whether she knows it or not (I believe she always has.) With so many years at Heritage, she has developed so many friends and family she is missing.

Susan is one who would dance in the kitchen, car, walking down the street if she hears a song that she loved. She would sing to Elwood just to make him smile (or comment.) She would sing to her dogs which she loved deeply. She hated waking up in the morning but once her engine was running it was getting things done as long as she could.

Susan is preceded in death and the descendent of her Grandparents Allen "Paw Paw" and Goldie Gillespie, and J.C. Powers and JoAnn Howerton. She is survived by parents, Pam Guajardo and Jim Powers and by her beloved husband, Elwood Matthews and his family.

Susan’s Celebration of Life will be at Post Oak Office of Heritage Texas, 1177 W. Loop South #1200, Houston, TX 77027 on Saturday, the 17th of February from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Susan loves animals. In lieu of flowers she would like any donations to go to homeless pets at Citizens for Animal Protection (CAPS). https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/CitizensforAnimalProtection

Susan is very original and wants a celebration. Her request are as follows: No Black, Jersey if you have one (BUT NOT DALLAS) and just jeans and casual attire. If you do not have a jersey, just something bright and joyful.
