Obituary for William R. Milligan

William R. Milligan (Bill),76, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

Bill, a resident of Katy, Texas, was born in Lufkin, Texas on September 30, 1942. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ora Dell and Clarence Milligan, his sister Clarkie Brown and husband Wayne, brothers Oscar Milligan and Jerry Milligan. Bill is also survived by his sister-in-law Jimmie Milligan and sister-in-law Jean Milligan.

He is survived by the love of his life and caregiver Nina Milligan and his children Mark Milligan and wife Jan, Bryan Milligan, and Doug Johnson; his 7 grandchildren Robert and wife Kelly, Austin and wife Erika, Ashlyn, Cole, Caleigh, Cody and Lane; great grandchildren Kye and Kara; his “Bonus” family John and Staci Ring and their additional children Kyli, Jacob, Kaelin and Jaden; and very special friends Roy and JoNell Smith.

A proud patriot of his country, Bill served in the US Navy as a submariner in the early 1960’s. After his service time, he worked as a piping designer, a safety and personnel manager, as well as other duties in the oil and gas industry. Bill loved western movies, war movies, and all spoken words of General George S. Patton. He enjoyed dazzling his friends and family with his unique brand of East Texas humor. He used his country wit, referred to by his family as “billmilliganisms”. He also loved to impress his friends and family with some of his rarely appreciated Glenn Yarbrough albums. He loved spending time with his family and was always first to raise his hand when someone needed assistance. Even in poor health, Bill would volunteer his help to a friend or anyone he knew in need.

His second great love, after his family, was golf. Bill was the US Postal Service of golfing. Neither rain, sleet, snow nor gloom of night would prevent him from teeing off on his designated day of golf. Even when he couldn’t work or drive, Bill managed to find his way to the golf course for a round of 18 holes. He was a marvel of tenacity and determination, and in the later stages of his illness, he refused to give in or allow it to deter him from the things he loved.

Special thanks to Bill’s caregivers, Brenda Brown, Hanna Evans, and Isabel Lopez. Their devotion to Bill was truly wonderful to see. The family would like to share it’s gratitude for all those who helped with Bill’s care from Amazing Grace Hospice of Katy. The love and care shown by this group of friends is truly “Amazing Grace”.

Bill Milligan: Husband, Father, Son, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother, Brother-in-law…beloved and trusted friend.
