Obituary for Frances Irene Stokely (Taylor)
Frances Irene Taylor Stokely was born on September 14, 1938, in Clarington County, South Carolina, at the Brasington's log cabin home. Her mother was assisted by Dr. Harden and her Aunt Louise Brasington. Dr. Harden charged $50.00 for the house-call delivery. She was the second child of Robert Philip Taylor and Ossie Irene Brasington. The family would include four more siblings: Etta Elizabeth, Robert Philip, Jr., Sandra Gail and Terry Michael.
Frances moved at a deliberate pace through life, but she was perfect in completion of her tasks. She graduated from the newly consolidated Baker County High School, Macclenny, Florida, 1956, where she was a Wildcat Cheerleader. She attended South Georgia College, Douglas, Georgia, where she was influenced by "Mrs. Shirley" an instructor of home-life skills. There, Frances constructed many complicated dress designs, beautifully and perfectly. Soon she would move to Atlanta, working at Grady Memorial Hospital. It was in Atlanta, that she met her husband Jesse Eugene Stokely. They were married for 59 years.
She was a life long Methodist and led her family to join First Methodist Church Houston in April of 1987. She dedicated her life to the service of others mostly through her work at Christian Alliance for Humanitarian Aid where she was a cofounder and served in multiple roles including president. She believed in serving the least of these as directed in Matthew 25:40.
Their family would include Tracy Elizabeth and son-in-law William John McDonald and grandsons William Benjamin and Christopher Taylor, son Jonathan Mark and daughter Phyllis Michelle. Frances passed as she lived.
Her composure and deliberate speed served her to her peaceful end. Frances was our peacemaker. We grieve at her loss but we are not without hope.
